Economic growth locally continues to be among the nation’s highest, according to the latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The local Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses Hardin, LaRue and Meade counties, ranked 21st with gross domestic product growth of 4.6 percent, based on the study released Wednesday. That puts the Elizabethtown-Fort Knox MSA in the top 5 percent nationally.
Analysts said real GDP, considered the most comprehensive measure of U.S. economic activity, increased in 267 out of the U.S. 382 metropolitan areas in 2016. Topping the list at 8.1 percent growth rate were Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Bend, Oregon.
Led by growth in professional and business services, real GDP for U.S. metro areas grew 1.7 percent in 2016.
